If you like it hot and spicy, you've just found your oasis away from New Orleans - VooDoo Daddy's Magic Kitchen. Talk about a very cool feel to a restaurant, VooDoo Daddy's has the feel of the Bayou surrounded with New Orleans flare.

We walked into the restaurant around 1pm, which apparently is the time to be there on a Sunday because it was patron free so we were seated very quickly. Something you'll notice that's different beyond the distressed wood plank walls and preserved alligator that greets you at the door, is what they bring you when you first sit down, homemade spicy potato chips. Spicy doesn't stop with these little appetizing gems, because the entire menu is chuck full of Cajun accented dishes that have you drooling before you even get a taste. With choices like alligator, crawfish and frog legs to more traditional dishes like fajitas and crab cakes, this place has flavors you won't find anywhere else in the East Valley.

We started the meal off with something I've never seen before on a menu - fried green tomatoes. They were mild in flavor with an after spice twang that helped my sweat glands warm up a bit. For our main entrees we ordered fajitas and a rib eye steak sandwich, both of which were huge in portion size.  I opted for Cajun fries as my side but opted out of an unusual option for sweet potato fries that were sweated with sugar and brown spice - where else can you get those?

Let me repeat myself, everything we ordered and for the most part on the menu has a bite of some kind, so know that this place is not for the weak taste budded.

Our server was very good and before we ordered made sure we knew what to anticipate what our meals might be like flavor wise. The meals were timed perfectly and hit our table within the 10-15 minute window.

The lunch fajitas were only $6 and for the size I would easily paid twice that at another restaurant. My rib eye steak sandwich at $7, was no different in that they loaded the plate up throwing food cost to the wind.

If we had the room to order dessert, it would have been fantastic, the selections they had for the most part came with baked in bourbon or whiskey.  Would you expect anything less from a New Orleans Cajun restaurant? Our entire bill came to right around $21, which is just amazing. When you're in the mood for good eats that are hot and spicy, do not miss VooDoo Daddy's. If you're worried about the kids eating here don't, they have traditional kid favorites without the bite and, get this, on Sundays they eat for FREE!
