The idea of writing a book had always been there at the back of my head. But, for some unknown reason, I kept delaying it again and again. There was always an excuse for not starting. That was till the time I came to know about the National Novel Writing Month.
The month of November is the National Novel Writing Month. The moment I got to know about it, something miraculous happened. I suddenly decided to start writing my novel and finish it in one month. It was a mammoth task, especially for someone like me who has the habit of delaying tasks until the last moment. However, this time I was sure that I was not going to back down.
So, this is how I planned the task and finished it in the expected time.
Starting with a new mindset:
The first thing that I had to change was my mindset. There were things that were stopping me from doing my best work. Things like social media platforms were sources of distraction. I decided to quit using social media for a full month. That was how I got myself ready for the task. Other than that I decided to spend the month without much socializing. That way I could solely focus on writing my book.
Writing a book in a month needs consistency. I set my goal in two phases. The first was the completion of the book. The second part was editing and reviewing. The idea was to try and complete the book before thirty days.
I broke down my goals into smaller goals that didn’t seem intimidating. I worked relentlessly towards achieving those small goals. I spent the first 15 days writing and voice typing. I used this tool for voice typing. That was the first phase.
In the second phase, that is the remaining 15 days, I proofread and reviewed the book and made changes wherever needed. It took me some 10 days to do so. In total, it took just 25 days for me to finish writing the book. I then gave it to a friend of mine to get some feedback. She read the book and gave me some suggestions. I worked on it and made the changes wherever needed.
Exercising and eating healthy
This is really important when you decide to go on a writing spree. Spending hours and hours in a sitting position makes your body stiff. I was aware of the health consequences of not exercising and sitting in one place for a prolonged period of time. That is the reason I spent at least two to three hours everyday exercising. I also made sure that I gave my body good food. I completely cut down on junk food and started trying healthy snacks. This really helped me go through those days.
Those were the things I did that made me finish writing a book in less than a month. I was super excited to have finished my lifelong dream in such a short time. I also realized the fact that we can achieve anything we want as long as we have the dedication and the right approach to do it.
