April 22 , 2005 by Editor

Nationally celebrated poet Chase Twichell highlights the 2005 Poetry in April season with a reading and moderated discussion from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Tempe Public Library Program Room, 3500 S. Rural Road.

Twichell, one of America's leading poets, has published five books of poems, including: "The Snow Watcher" (1998), winner of the Alice Fay Di Castagnola Award from the Poetry Society of America, and "The Ghost of Eden" (1995), both from Ontario Review Press, "Perdido" (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1991), and "The Odds" (1986) and "Northern Spy" (1981), both from University of Pittsburgh Press.

Her new book, "Dog Language," will be published by Copper Canyon in the fall.

Twichell quit her teaching job at Princeton University in 1999 to found Ausable Press, which publishes contemporary poetry. She also is the co-editor of "The Practice of Poetry: Writing Exercises From Poets Who Teach." Her poems have appeared in many journals and magazines, including Antaeus, The Nation, The New Yorker, The Paris Review, Ploughshares and Poetry.

Twichell's reading is made possible in part by the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing. Poetry in April is presented by: Wal-Mart and sponsored by Tempe Cultural Services and the Tempe Public Library.

Refreshments provided by The Wildflower Bread Company.

Written examples of all the poets' work are available in anthology form during the event and online at www.tempe.gov/arts/events/TempePoets.htm.
