ASU Senior Writes, Composes "Rush: The Musical"

March 28 , 2005 by Editor

What happens when five college girls search for lifelong friendship, loyalty and the true meaning of life in the most unlikely of places, sorority rush?

It's "Rush: The Musical," a goofy pop-rock romp conceived by a 22-year old Arizona State University undergrad.

ASU senior Lauren Henschen penned the 85-page "Rush" script, composed its music, wrote the lyrics, played all the instruments, recorded the digital soundtrack herself, and will serve as musical director and sound designer for the show's four upcoming live performances. Many of the school's theatre standouts are set to have fun in the stellar cast.

A talented acting major, Henschen has developed a reputation for her off-the-wall quirky humor as director and cast member of ASU's Farce Side Comedy Hour (which does a live show with all-new sketches every Friday) and as a regular with the Barren Mind Improv Group. When not acting funny, she's also a budding singer-songwriter-guitarist who has actually "opened" previous ASU programs playing "The Star-Spangled Banner" on fuzz guitar dressed as Jimi Hendrix.

"Rush: The Musical" is Henschen's way of putting it all together Šwith a beat. Catch it in ASU's Prism Theatre April 7, 8, 9 & 10. More info: http://theatre.asu.edu/production/prism.htm.
