Grammy Winner to Preform at McDowell Mountain Music Festival
March 23 , 2005 by Editor Recent Grammy Awards show performer Dickey Betts, plus soul artist Solomon Burke and three-time Grammy winner Bruce Hornsby head an all-star musical lineup for the second annual McDowell Mountain Music Festival April 29-30 at WestWorld, located at 16601 N. Pima Road (just off Loop 101 north of Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd.) in north Scottsdale
The trio will join folk artist Tony Furtado, jazz blues rocker Big Head Todd & The Monsters, Derek Trucks, Jerry Jeff Walker, blues rocker Jerry Ripoelle, blues artist Susan Tedeschi, The Derek Trucks Band and Walt Richardson and the Morning Star Reunion for the two-day music extravaganza.
Designed as a fun, family music cultural event promoting community togetherness through musical entertainment and to benefit those in need, the McDowell Mountain Music Festival is a display of eclectic musical tastes.
All proceeds will benefit Arizona Quest for Kids and the Phoenix Day Child and Family Learning Center. Arizona Quest provides financial and mentoring support for college graduation to children with academic potential from economically disadvantaged families. Phoenix Day, located in South Phoenix, offers a secure learning environment so that parents may maintain meaningful employment.
McDowell Mountain Music Festival is the brainchild of John Largay, president of the Wespac construction company in Phoenix and is designed to bring the community together and help the less fortunate.
"As a community we are continually responsible to promote the well-being and charity awareness of its members," said Largay. "Sometime we take this for granted. Culture is not automatic. It is created. A music festival does this. It creates an opportunity for people to collectively participate as a community."
Continuous music will be featured from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, April 29 and 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, April 30. Food, entertainment, children's programs and other events planned will make sure the "happening" turns into a real musical adventure appropriate for all ages.
