Explore the Wetlands of the Louisiana Bayou on Know99 Television
January 28 , 2005 by EditorPhoenix students and teachers will travel along on a live scientific research expedition to the wetlands of the Louisiana bayou without ever leaving their classroom. The week-long expedition, known as the JASON Project, sets sail Monday, Jan. 31, on know99 Television. JASON's real-time, interdisciplinary science expeditions offer students a unique opportunity to learn through discovery and exploration.
Viewers will have several opportunities each day to join in the expedition with live broadcasts each hour starting at 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. through Feb. 4. The 11 a.m. broadcast will be live in Spanish and will repeat at 9 p.m. Repeat broadcasts in English will air at 3 and 10 p.m.
The JASON Project is a program of the JASON Foundation for Education, named in the spirit of the Greek myth of the explorer Jason and the Argonauts. JASON began as the dream of Dr. Robert Ballard, the scientist and oceanographer who discovered the wreck of the Titanic in 1996. Impressed by the many requests he received from students who wanted to learn more about his Titanic expedition, Dr. Ballard began to explore ways to bring the excitement of real scientific discovery into the classroom. In 1989, he established the JASON Foundation for Education, a pioneering organization that uses multimedia tools and cutting-edge technology to engage students in scientific research and expeditions led by leading scientists.
