Young Performers Gear Up For Competition

January 11 , 2005 by EditorThe Herberger Theater Center and Center Dance Ensemble join for a sixth year to recognize outstanding young performing artists between the ages of 16 and 19 in the areas of drama, voice and modern dance. Three panels of industry professionals will judge these young performers from January 11 through January 13, 2005. At the conclusion of the preliminary adjudication process, four finalists from each category are chosen to compete in the Arizona Young Artists' Final Competition held at the Herberger Theater Center on Saturday, January 15, 2005 in Stage West at 7:00pm. A $1,000 cash prize will be awarded to the winner in each category. Sponsored by Wells Fargo and Salt River Project.

Last year's winners include, Marjorie Hazeltine in the category of Drama, won performing Katherina from The Taming of the Shrew and Joan from Saint Joan. Scott Douglas MacIntyre triumphed in the category of Voice, performing Sante Fe by Menken and Feldman and Tonight at Eight! by Harnick and Beck. In the Modern Dance category, Jill Hendrickson took top honors performing Adagio choreographed by Cynthia Gutierrez-Garner.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and children. Tickets can be purchased the night of the event.
