“Living” With Your Neighbors
August 30 , 2004 by Janet SandersHumans are living longer, as life expectancy rises steadily every year. Improve your chances of spending more time with your neighbors, family and friends!
· Find fun activities to share with your neighbors. A good laugh has been shown to lower levels of stress hormones, and heightens the activity of the body's natural defensives and antibodies.
· Find an exercise partner or start a walking group in your neighborhood and reduce your chances of coronary heart disease up to 40% with regular exercise.
· Challenge yourself to stay busy. Find someone you can learn with, play games with or even go shopping with.
· Enjoy life longer by having an optimistic outlook. Researchers at a U.S. Mayo Clinic found that people who look at the bright side of life live about 12 years longer than those who don’t.
· Don’t smoke, or hang around people who do. Statistics say you should live longer.
· Ask a neighbor over for tea. Green and black tea both contain about the same amount of antioxidants, and are believed to be heart healthy.
· Get a pet and encourage others in your neighborhood to do the same. Families who have pets (especially dogs) are less stressed. They are also more optimistic, and are more relaxed than those who don't, say scientists from Cambridge University.
