SCOTTSDALE CITY COUNCIL TO REVIEW CORONADO GOLF COURSE OPTIONS

June 17 , 2005 by Kathleen Gorden

The Scottsdale City Council will consider a range of options for the future of the Coronado Golf Course near Thomas and Miller roads at its Tuesday, June 21 meeting.

The city owns 36 of the 44 acres currently occupied by the course. The city's lease to the golf course operator expires in October, and the city staff is asking for direction from the Council on its future. Options include an open bid process to lease the city's land for golf, negotiations with the owners of the remaining 8 acres of the course to renew a golf course lease, or use of the site for a "passive" park with limited activities.

The course is located in the Indian Bend Wash, part of a ribbon of parks and golf courses that doubles as a floodway during heavy storms.
