Mesa Community Spirit Program wins volunteerism award
April 22 , 2005 by EditorThe Volunteer Center of Maricopa County, in conjunction with The Business Journal and the Arizona Small Business Association, presented the City of Mesa with the Community Sustainer award during the 2005 Awards for Excellence in Corporate Volunteerism luncheon.
The Community Sustainer award is presented to companies with more than 1,000 employees. The City of Mesa received the award for the efforts of employees in the Community Spirit Program. Prior to receiving the award, the City was one of three finalists along with American Express Co. and Albertsons.
"Our employees not only reach out to thousands of residents through the Community Spirit Program — but they also help their co-workers and families, their neighbors, the people they interact with everyday through their jobs and the people they pass on the street," said City Manager Mike Hutchinson during the awards luncheon.As part of being an award recipient, the City’s Community Spirit Program currently is featured in The Business Journal’s Corporate Citizenship magazine.
Since 1962, the Volunteer Center has been promoting volunteerism to enhance the quality of life in the community.
