The Chandler Fire Department recently honored several employees for exceptional service

April 02 , 2005 by EditorThe Chandler Fire Department recently honored several employees for exceptional service. Fire Captain Scott Wall was named the 2004 Firefighter of the Year. Captain Wall was cited for his exceptional service to the professional firefighters association, development of the departments training program and his off duty dedication to youth sports as a coach.

 

Public Education Officer Marty Dangel was cited as Civilian Employee of the Year for his efforts to educate both children and adults in fire and water safety and for his involvement in several safety campaigns across the Valley.

 

Fire Prevention Supervisor Virginia Holtzclaw was given the Darrel Crisp Memorial Award for her work with the Hazardous Materials Team, specifically for development and maintenance of computerized records and resources used on Hazardous Materials incidents.

 

Engineer Tom Dwiggins was named as Paramedic of the Year, Tom was cited for his dedication to educating and mentoring paramedic students.

 

Damian Gomez was named Emergency Medical Technician of the Year for his exceptional dedication to patient care and being part of a efficient care giving team.

 

Individual Citations were given to:

 

Paramedic Firefighter Jim Spengler for his off duty assistance to a citizen that suffered a heart attack at Sky Harbor Airport.

 

Engineer Dave Blau for his work and maintenance of the department Clown Program.

 

Jeff West for care above and beyond normal duty for an elderly patient that had no one to help him to get assistance.

 

Jeff Brennan for his dedication to maintaining accountability and tracking of response times to assure timely response of ambulances.

 

Tom Fooshee for sponsoring a department wide challenge to reduce body fat. Tom tracked and encouraged several employees and had an excellent response.

 

A new Fitness Award acknowledged Engineer Dan Kuefner and Battalion Chief Dan Couch for weight loss and increased fitness for duty.
