Cubs Again Set Major League Record at Hohokam Stadium
April 02 , 2005 by EditorChicago Cubs fans streamed into Mesa’s Hohokam Stadium in record numbers for the second year in a row.The spring home of the beloved Cubs broke its own Major League Baseball season attendance mark, drawing 193,993 fans during the month of March. The record set in 2004 was 189,692 for the spring.
The Cubs averaged 12,124 fans for its 16 dates, easily passing the 11,855 average of last year. Fourteen of the Cubs’ 16 games were sellouts in the 12,500-seat capacity Hohokam Stadium, capped by an overflow crowd of 12,763 on Thursday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The entire Cactus League drew more than 1.2 million fans this spring, surpassing the Cactus League record also set last year.
