Summer Jobs Available For Young People
March 30 , 2005 by EditorApproximately 1,100 young people, 14 to 18 years old, will have a job this summer through the city of Phoenix Summer Youth Work Experience Program.
Participants will be paid an hourly wage of $5.50 for about 200 hours of work beginning on June 1. Applications are being accepted by the city's Human Services Department Youth Services Division for summer jobs for youth who live in Phoenix.
Applications will be available online at phoenix.gov/YOUTH/sumwork.html from April 4 to 29. Applications also may be obtained at most schools and at the following Phoenix Parks and Recreation and Human Services departments locations: South Mountain Community Center, 212 E. Alta Vista Road; Desert West Community Center, 6501 W. Virginia Ave.; Sunnyslope Community Center, 802 E. Vogel Ave.; or the At-Risk Youth Division, 3333 N. Seventh Ave.
Other sites include Longview Neighborhood Recreation Center, 4040 N. 14th St.; Eastlake Park Recreation Center, 1549 E. Jefferson St.; Mountain View Community Center, 1104 E. Grovers Ave.; Travis L. Williams Family Services Center, 4732 S. Central Ave.; John F. Long Family Services Center, 3454 N. 51st Ave.; Central Phoenix Family Services Center, 1250 S. Seventh Ave.; Sunnyslope Family Services Center, 914 W. Hatcher Road; Phoenix Workforce Connection, 3406 N. 51st Ave. - West; Phoenix Workforce Connection, 9801 N. Seventh St. - North; and Phoenix City Hall, 200 W. Washington St., First Floor.
Applications may be submitted only from April 18 to 29 at the drop-off locations listed on the application form.
The program will select youth through a "lottery process." After this process, interview appointments will be scheduled with selected applicants. Applicants who are not selected will be notified and their applications will remain on file throughout the 2005 summer program.
