City of Tempe, Tree City Award Winner, Celebrates Arbor Day

March 17 , 2005 by Kathleen Gorden

The city of Tempe will be celebrating Arbor Day at 10 a.m. on March 30 with a gathering at the State Capitol Lobby and Gallery. Among the festivities will be the presentation of the 2004 Tree City Awards.

Tempe will be recognized as a Tree City USA for the 10th consecutive year.

Sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service, the award honors Tempe's commitment to its community forest. In order to be named a Tree City USA, a city must have a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program and an Arbor Day observance. The city of Tempe has continued to meet these standards to receive this national recognition.
