Gene Autry Sports Complex Named the United States Tennis Association’s Southwest Section Member Organization of the Year
March 17 , 2005 by Kathleen GordenMesa’s Gene Autry Sports Complex was named the United States Tennis Association’s Southwest Section Member Organization of the Year 2004.
The United States Tennis Association Southwest Section (USTA) has named the City of Mesa’s Gene Autry Sports Complex its member organization of the year 2004.
The tennis and volleyball facility, which opened in 1997, was noted for its promotion and development of tennis in the southwest, and its excellence in programming. The facility offers tennis leagues for players of almost any ability as well as junior and adult tennis lessons. Adult drop-in tennis is also offered. The facility served more than 56,000 participants last year.
“We are very proud of the Gene Autry Sports Complex and the quality recreation activities Mesa citizens can enjoy there,” states Bob White, Parks and Recreation Director. “Tennis and volleyball are great ways for individuals of all ages to stay healthy and keep in shape.”
The Gene Autry Sports Complex is located at 4125 East McKellips Road.
The facility features 16 lighted tennis courts, four sand volleyball courts, men’s and women’s locker rooms and showers and a tennis pro-shop.
Its hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Sunday, 5 to 9 p.m.
