YOUNG ARTISTS COMPETITION 2005 Sister Cities International seeks talented artists to create new work.

EditorThe Town of Gilbert Arts Advisory Board and Gilbert Sister Cities invite Gilbert youth between 13 and 18 years of age to use their imagination to create original artwork that relates to the theme “Connecting Global Villages.” The winning entries from Gilbert and Sister Cities Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland and Leshan, China will be entered into the Sister Cities International competition in Washington, DC. Only new work inspired by this theme should be submitted. All other entries will be on display during the first annual
2005 Gilbert Global Village Festival, Saturday, April 23, 2005, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. at Gilbert North Civic Center Campus, Municipal Center grounds, 50 East Civic Center Drive.
The Gilbert Arts Advisory Board was established by the Gilbert Town Council in 2000 to promote and advocate for cultural arts growth in Gilbert. Gilbert Sister Cities is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting cultural understanding and stimulating economic development opportunities for the youth, adults and businesses of Gilbert through international partnerships.
The first place Gilbert winner will receive a cash award and have their artwork entered into the international competition in Washington, D.C. where 10 winners will receive a $300 award and certificate.
Gift certificates will be presented to the Gilbert artists who place second and third.
Original unframed two-dimensional work, no larger than 24” x 30” will be accepted. Watercolor, oils, pastels, pen and ink, charcoal, photography, mixed media and computer generated art are all acceptable media. Artwork must be mounted on foamcore or matted. A panel of local judges will evaluate entries on the basis of theme interpretation, composition and originality.
