The Lamar Everyday Spa & The Breast Cancer Foundation of AZ to Host 1st Annual Beads for Breasts Mardi Gras Ball

January 31 , 2005 by Kathleen Gorden

On February 8th at 6:30PM, the usually tranquil “Official spa of the Phoenix Suns Dancers” will be transformed into an authentic New Orleans Style Mardi-Gras masquerade ball.

“Breasts have been the mascot of Mardi Gras for years,” smiles Heidi Lamar, the spa’s owner,  “We thought it was about time Mardi Gras gave something back”. Lamar, whose own mother is a recent breast cancer survivor, had been looking for a way to support the cause. The Mardi-Gras Ball was a perfect opportunity to celebrate the victories of survivors while helping to fund the ongoing search for a cure.

The Beads for Breasts Mardi Gras Ball will feature authentic Cajun delicacies by chefs from New Orleans, one a protégé of Emeril’s, the other an instructor at The Scottsdale Culinary Institute. Hurricanes will be provided, courtesy of Fat Tuesdays.  Guests are encouraged to wear festive cocktail attire and purchase Mardi Gras masks at the event for $20, also benefiting the cause. Masks will come with a raffle number, and every one is guaranteed to win a prize with values of up to $150.

The Breast Cancer Foundation of Arizona was founded in 1992 by Dr. Marion Jabczenski, recognized as one of the founding fathers of mammography for his inventions and contributions to the medical community. The foundation is dedicated to research, education and advocacy of breast cancer. Dr Jabczenski will be the guest of honor at The Beads for Breasts Mardi Gras Ball, with his colleague, Judith Sipes, R.T.M.

The event’s Platinum sponsor joins BCFA in their contributions to the community.

Hospice Inspiris, Formerly ATA Hospice provides inspired and compassionate end of life care for those who need it most.

In addition to Zydeco music, great food and Hurricanes, the ball will have plenty of fun ways to support the cause. Fortune-tellers, massage therapists, psychics and others will be donating all proceeds from their booths to the foundation. A silent auction will feature trips, tours, Suns tickets, golf outings, diamond jewelry and original art. The Lamar Everyday Spa will also contribute $10 to BCFAZ for each spa package purchased that evening, which will make Valentine’s Day shopping easy and doubly sweet.

Mardi Gras, literally translated “Fat Tuesday”, is held the night before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent. The legendary revelry of Mardi Gras is a “last hurrah” before giving up something dear for the month preceding Easter Sunday. “We realize that Tuesday night is not traditionally a big night out,” said Lamar, “But we are hoping that everyone will come out and have a good time for a good cause!”

Tickets for the “Beads For Breasts” Mardi-Gras ball can be purchase at The Lamar or by calling (480) 945-7066. Prices are $30 per person in advance or $40 at the door. Contributions and prize donations may be made at The Lamar as well. All proceeds will go directly to The Breast Cancer Foundation of Arizona.

Located at the corner of Scottsdale Road and Vista, just north of The Scottsdale Fashion Square, The Lamar Everyday Spa is open 7 days per week from 9 to 9.
