City Supports Tax-Deductible Donations To Help Keep Arizona Clean & Beautiful

January 14 , 2005 by Editor

The City of Apache Junction is appreciative of the many efforts Arizona Clean & Beautiful provides to the community to help reduce and mitigate the effects of littering in Arizona. One of their very successful programs, the Litter Hotline, is a litter prevention program established in July of 2002 through a partnership between Arizona Clean & Beautiful (ACB) and the Arizona Department of Transportation. Arizona spends over $2.2 million annually on litter cleanup. The Litter Hotline focuses on prevention, to help save taxpayer dollars. ACB operates the Litter Hotline with funding fully provided by private and corporate donors.

When a citizen calls the Litter Hotline at 1-(800) 354-8837 and reports the license plate of an offender, a letter will be sent to the registered owner of the vehicle advising them that littering is illegal.

ACB is asking concerned residents to consider supporting the "Litter Hotline" by making a tax-deductible gift to support the effort. According to Linda Stiles, Executive Director for ACB, "Arizona Clean & Beautiful exists today because people like you care to make a difference."

ACB is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization that works through more than 30 community affiliate groups to preserve, maintain and enhance Arizona’s natural beauty and environment. It is programs like the "Litter Hotline" that help to reduce litter, eliminate illegal dumping, encourage recycling and increase the quality of life in Arizona. For additional information on the many efforts of ACB, you can visit their website at www.arizonacleanandbeautiful.com. Additional information is also available by emailing azbeautiful@qwest.net or calling (602) 262-2532.

If you are interested in making a tax-deductible donation to support the Litter Hotline, please mail your check to: Arizona Clean & Beautiful, 830 N. Central Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85004. Your contribution will help keep their programs funded for the 2005 calendar year.

In addition to the many efforts of ACB, the City of Apache Junction supports proactive efforts to reduce litter and illegal desert dumping. The City of Apache Junction sponsors desert fencing projects, quarterly clean-up events, white goods and hazardous waste events (in conjunction with Pinal County), and Tree-cycling to recycle Christmas trees after the holidays. The City also offers opportunities for citizens to become involved through the Adopt-A-Street program, AZ Highway Adoption, and periodic desert clean-up events. If you would like additional information on litter prevention or clean-up opportunities within Apache Junction, please contact Janine Solley at the City of Apache Junction (480) 474-5076 or jsolley@ajcity.net.
