Volunteers Needed To Help Income Tax Assistance Program

January 11 , 2005 by Editor

Volunteers are needed to help low-income families take advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit.

The Internal Revenue Service, in partnership with the city of Phoenix, provides training for volunteers to help low-income taxpayers prepare information needed to file a return. Volunteers are needed for at least two hours weekly through April. Online training also is available.

With the help of volunteers, the city of Phoenix increased tax refunds for low-income families by more than $21 million last year. However, the IRS estimates that millions of dollars still remain unclaimed because so many working families didn't realize they qualified for the tax credit.

Volunteers also are needed as translators, site assistants and greeters.

To request information about the tax credit or to volunteer, call the city of Phoenix Human Services Department at 602-262-4520.
