All-Star Kids Tutoring and Great Arizona Puppet Theater Present Blindfolded!
October 28 , 2006 by Kathleen GordenPHOENIX – Great Arizona Puppet Theater will present Blindfolded for the children, families and volunteers in All-Star Kids Tutoring (ASKT), a one-on-one tutoring program for children struggling to master basic reading skills. Blindfolded, funded by the Craniofacial Foundation of Arizona, will be performed free-of-charge at two tutoring sites. Blindfolded was written for children, and focuses on promoting acceptance of people with disabilities. Afterwards, the audience will have an opportunity to participate in a post-show discussion about the issues raised in the show.
ASKT is excited about the opportunity to partner with Great Arizona Puppet Theater and bring Blindfolded to students and volunteers. “Not only will our students get to experience the art of puppetry, they will have an opportunity to learn about tolerance,” says Program Director Jenny Lee. Volunteers, as well as students, are excited about the upcoming productions. “I love Great Arizona Puppet Theater— and volunteering with ASKT is awesome,” says Hannah Behun, a high school student and volunteer reading tutor. The shows will be held during tutoring sessions and will start promptly at 6:45PM. The first performance of Blindfolded will be held Thursday, November 2, at Hartford Sylvia Encinas Elementary School in Chandler in the multi-purpose room. The second performance will be held Tuesday, November 14, at William T. Machan Elementary in Central Phoenix in the school library.
About All-Star Kids Tutoring
All-Star Kids Tutoring (ASKT) brings the community together to foster literacy skills in children. For the past ten years, ASKT has provided free of charge, one-on-one volunteer literacy tutoring to second- and third-grade students struggling to master basic reading skills. We recruit, train and support community volunteers who will tutor and mentor one student once a week for the duration of the school year. ASKT also supports children's literacy by working with students' families and providing them with home libraries. For more information call 602.957.0000.
