Isaac School Pedestrian Bridge Schedule Accelerating
July 27 , 2006 by Kathleen GordenConstruction and completion of the west Phoenix pedestrian bridge to serve Isaac Middle School will be accelerated by more than a year, thanks to the work of Rep. Ed Pastor. Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2007, with completion targeted for the spring of 2008.
"This bridge means so much to our community," said Mayor Phil Gordon. "Having it finished a year early will not only benefit the kids, but also help with the progressive revitalization going on in this area."
"We are pleased to help the Isaac community," said Rep. Pastor. "The safety of children is a priority and we want to do all we can to get this bridge built as quickly as possible."
The bridge will be built near the intersection of 34th Avenue and McDowell Road, leading to Isaac Middle School. It will span a busy stretch of road where hundreds of schoolchildren cross every day to and from school. The federal government is funding the $3.1 million project.
