A new study finds the practice of DWT — driving while texting — is a growing danger on the nation’s roads.

According to a new survey conducted by Nationwide Mutual Insurance, one in five drivers admitted to texting while behind the wheel. A second survey on FindLaw.com, a legal website, found nearly half of drivers age 18 to 24 admitted to sending text messages, instant messages or e-mail messages while driving.

May is Military Appreciation Month and May 26th is Memorial Day.

eMail Our Military’s founder is a military wife, the daughter of a veteran and an avid troop supporter. We’re volunteers from all walks of life who understand that regardless of our political views, our military service members deserve our respect, support & encouragement.

How We Began

eMail Our Military (eMoM) was created in 2001 as a response to the DoD’s cancellation of the “Any Service Member” and “Operation Dear Abby” mail programs. A safe alternative, eMOM picked up where these programs left off.

Using eMail, eMail Our Military (eMoM) provides a safe way for people to continue the tradition of “Any Service Member” mail with a much more personal touch. Service Members register with them for support and are matched with civilians who have registered to send and show their support to our troops.

Throughout our history, we have been blessed by the courage and commitment of Americans who were willing to pay the price of their tomorrows. They have fought and died for our freedom and have kept us sleeping secure each night in safety. Every one of them, from all different backgrounds, races and religions, no matter what battlefield they died on, every one, helped to build this strong nation we love. I’m proud to be an American and I don’t take my freedom for granted.

The great German poet, Goethe, said to his generation:

“What you have inherited from your fathers, earn over again for yourselves or it will not be yours.”

We inherited freedom. We seem unaware that freedom has to be remade and re-earned in each generation of man.

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. In other words, we celebrate patriotism. Merriam Webster’s definition of patriotism is “Love for, or devotion to, one’s country.”

And that brings me to ask, what does the word Patriotism mean to you? Is it different for each generation? The answer to that question is a resounding YES! Why? Because each generation has had its own defining moments. As radio host Jesse Conrad says, “Learn from the past, watch the present and create the future.” So let’s take a trip across the 20th Century for a better understanding of this progression.

In the 1920s, the Great War had ended and the young were hopeful about their future. They fervently believed their government would protect them from people and things that would hurt them. Their motto could have been the song title, “Happy Days Are Here Again!

Series begins with Penfolds – Australia’s Most Famous Wine

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA – March 27, 2008 – Barcelona Steakhouse in partnership with Sportsman’s Fine Wine and Spirits announced the kick-off dinner for the Corks and Cuisine Wine Dinner Series.

The first dinner will be held on Wednesday, April 2nd and will feature the wines of Penfolds – Australia’s Most Famous Wine. The five course price fix menu presented by Barcelona Steakhouse Executive Chef Bryan Williams, features exotic flavors to enhance the taste of the wines. An example of the pairings include a Millionaire Salad with Maine lobster paired with Bin 51 Eden Valley Riesling and Porcini dusted summer fields lamb paired with Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon.

The event will feature Matthew J. Lane, Penfolds Director of Wine Education for the Americas and Canada as the guest speaker. Mr. Lane trains internal staff and external clients on wine education on a global scale. He is also a guest lecturer at the University of Adelaide, one of Australia’s top wine training colleges.

The evening will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner seating at 7:00 p.m. Price per person is $75.00 and reservations are required as seating is very limited.

The next Corks and Cuisine Wine Dinner event is slated for Wednesday, May 21st and will feature the wines of Ferrari-Carano.

Bingo, shuffleboard, and golf every day are passé. We want to be busy, just not as busy. We want to stay involved, but not 60 hours a week involved. We want to continue earning, but without the stress and pressure of a traditional job.

Essentially, Boomers have finally grown up. We have become working caregivers to our parents and children, and our concerns range from finances to relationships to health. Can you believe the drop-out generation currently sees itself as family-oriented? That the former protest-everything-generation now say they put others before themselves?

KUTP My 45 and KSAZ FOX 10 today unveiled the online home of “My Dating Place,” the interactive dating program based entirely around Valley residents.

Found at www.myfoxphoenix.com, this site is where individuals can create a profile, post videos and photos, view those of other singles and volunteer to have their date taped for an upcoming episode of the show.  All contact information will be kept confidential until otherwise indicated.

“We wanted ‘My Dating Place’ to allow local singles to get to know each other in a fun and unique way,” said Pat Nevin, Vice President and General Manager, KUTP-TV and KSAZ-TV.  “By using this multi-faceted platform to bring people together through television and the Internet we are providing a truly interactive experience.”

Premiering Monday, June 25th, “My Dating Place” will air on My 45 Mondays at 9pm, with encore episodes presented weekdays at 3pm on My 45 and weekends on FOX 10.   The show, in conjunction with the Internet, allows local individuals to record individual profiles and then potentially appear on television to meet and date fellow Arizona singles.
