Web Presentation Set April 2 On Transit, Dial-A-Ride Programs
Valley Metro is conducting a Web-based presentation from noon to 1 p.m. April 2 for residents to learn more about proposed changes to two of the organization’s programs: increases to bus/transit and Dial-A-Ride fares; and a new certification process to use the Dial-A-Ride service.
To register for the Web presentation, visit: www.joingotomeeting.com, and enter meeting ID number: 528873060. Valley Metro, the regional public transit agency, determines the price of bus service (local, regional, express and RAPID), Phoenix and East Valley ADA Dial-a-Ride and METRO light rail service. The last fare change occurred in December 2007.
Current proposed fare changes are a response to declining sales tax revenues that fund a majority of transit service in the Valley. The proposed fare changes include an increase between 50 cents and $1 on a one-ride local fare that is currently $1.25. Price increases are also planned for the all-day, 3-day, 7-day and 31-day passes. The new fares could be in effect in July 2009.
In Scottsdale, the East Valley Dial-A-Ride (EVDAR) service is designed for disabled transit users and individuals over age 65. Proposed changes to EVDAR service include a fare increase to $2.50 (currently $2) in the first year and 50 cents in following years until it reaches $3.50.
As part of the proposed changes, transit riders who wish to receive ADA certification will be required to complete both an application and an in-person interview/assessment. There are two proposed options under the program: a one to five-year certification; or a lifetime eligibility certification.
