Don’t Miss The Last Weekend Of 13th Annual Phoenix Theatre’s Hormel New Works Festival
Phoenix, Ariz. – The 13th Annual Phoenix Theatre’s Hormel New Works Festival will wrap up this weekend with three great performances.
What if thinking was discouraged? What if art was not allowed? These dilemmas are just a few that are faced in the dark comic fairytale Robot Songs written by Scott McCarrey and directed by Robert Kolby Harper. The show is about a small town where thinking of any sort is typically discouraged, and a reporter with a wild curiosity and the desire for knowledge. Robot Songs will show Friday, July 30 at 7:30pm and Saturday, July 31 at 3pm and 7:30pm. Tickets are only $10!
Looking for something free this weekend? Check out “Wake of the Bounty” on Saturday, 31 at 11pm. Written by Tempe’s own Kim Porter, Wake of the Bounty explores the intersection of loss and gratitude in the life of a woman who discovers that longing isn’t just a feeling, it’s also a unit of measure, but no matter how long she longs she never arrives. Admission is free and donations will be accepted.
Last on the festival’s docket is The 24-hour Theatre Project on Sunday, August 1 at 7pm. The project allows the audience to watch the full theatre process in fast-forward. The playwright will sit down at zero to write the script and 23.5 hours later audience will view the final product! Seating for the performance is at 7pm, and tickets are $5.
Tickets can be reserved by calling 602.254.2151 or online at phoenixtheatre.com.

The Hormel New Works Festival is a unique experience where the audience witnesses the birth of a production. Selected playwrights present their scripts to the festival where they are performed in a staged-reading format with professional actors for the first time. Limited props and costumes are sometimes used. Following every performance, an audience discussion and interactive question and answer period will be held with the playwright and director.
