Gilbert Elementary School Principal Named as Douglas Unified School District’s New Superintendent
At the culmination of a hiring process that began in June, Sheila Rogers, Principal of Gilbert Elementary School for 20 years, has accepted the position of Superintendent of Douglas Unified School District. Ms. Rogers has been employed with Gilbert Public Schools for 38 years and will be sorely missed by its administrators, staff, and families.
Superintendent Dave Allison said, “We congratulate Sheila on this well-deserved appointment, and thank her for her many years of service to Gilbert Public Schools.”
Ms. Rogers is a native of Douglas and, though her departure from the Gilbert community is painful, she is thrilled to be returning to her hometown with this exciting career opportunity. To Gilbert Public Schools she says, “Thank you for all that you have done for me. Even though I am excited, this is hard for me.” She adds, “Gilbert is a first-class place, and I hope I can take much of what I have learned here to help me in Douglas.”
Frank Blume, former Principal of Burk Elementary, has been appointed Interim Principal at Gilbert Elementary until the hiring process provides a new Principal for Gilbert Elementary. Mr. Blume will begin his duties as Interim Principal July 26.
