Tempe hosts recycling event this Saturday

Tempe, Arizona – Tempe residents are invited to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day by bringing a variety of recyclables to a free event on Saturday, April 10, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Tempe’s Household Products Collection Center (HPCC), 1320 E. University Drive.
Each participant will receive a reusable Tempe shopping bag. Residents can participate in any of these aspects of the event:
Shred-A-Thon – Reduce the risk of identity theft by bringing your confidential documents to be securely shredded. Visit www.assuredsecurityaz.com.
E-Waste – Recycle electronic equipment such as calculators, cameras, computers, cell phones, monitors, DVDs, video cameras, stereos, telephones and televisions. Console TVs surrounded by wood or metal cannot be accepted. Visit www.tempe.gov/hhw.
Nike Reuse-A-Shoe – Bring your used athletic shoes for recycling. Nike turns them into rubberized surfaces for playgrounds and tennis courts. Any brand of shoes is accepted, with no cleats, spikes, sandals, dress or hiking shoes. Visit www.nikereuseashoe.com.
Bag Central Station – Bring your plastic shopping bags for recycling. Visit www.bagcentralstation.com.
Household products recycling – Clear out your garage and cabinets of old or unused household chemicals, such as paint, aerosol cans, cleaners, pool supplies and more. For information about what can be accepted, visit www.tempe.gov/hhw.
