Visiquest Solar Targets Commercial Building Flat Roofs with Uni-Solar® laminates

SCOTTSDALE, AZ  – Visiquest, a real estate investment and development company, has launched a new sister company to develop rooftop solar solutions for commercial buildings featuring Uni-Solar® thin film laminates.

Visiquest Solar Development selected Uni-Solar’s triple junction patented technology because it is especially well suited for Arizona’s flat roofs, abundant sunshine and high heat.  The lightweight flexible laminates adhere directly to roofing surfaces thereby eliminating troublesome roof penetrations, ugly racks and structural weight issues.

The product comes with a 25 year power output warranty and most major roofing manufactures have embraced Uni-Solar as part of a building integrated photovoltaic system.

Unique Uni-Solar features include:

  • No  roof penetrations
  • Flexible and Lightweight (.7 lbs per sq. ft.)
  • No glass, impact resistant
  • Shade and low light tolerant
  • High heat performance
  • Building integrated

Visiquest draws on its 25 years of investment and development experience to differentiate itself from others in the solar space.  Using the real estate model, Visiquest has assembled a strategic team which includes consultants and contractors to thoroughly evaluate a building;  its panel supplier who also provides engineer, design and technical assistance; roofing and electrical contractors to install the two main components; and a proprietary web based energy monitor company.  Visiquest uses in-house personnel to run sophisticated investment models, secure permits, process utility incentives, procure financing as needed, and oversee the entire solar development process.  The team concept allows Visiquest to bring the most specialized and effective talent to each project and ensures the highest level of quality control.

Asked if there was any downside to thin film laminates, Joel Broder, CEO of Visiquest Solar says, “The knock on Uni-Solar has been its lower efficiencies as compared to traditional crystalline panel systems.  However, due its lower system costs and higher kilowatt hour energy output, it has become competitive with crystalline.”  He goes on to say, “Most building owners are not trying to offset every kilowatt of grid electricity they can.  They merely want to capitalize on their vacant roof area to improve the environment and their bottom line. Uni-Solar accomplished that goal.”

Another compelling distinction, says Broder, is that Uni-Solar is an American company with headquarters in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan.  Its manufacturing plants are also located in America. The company has had a long successful track record and its parent company, Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. is publically traded (Nasdaq: ENER).

Notably, the Phoenix Convention Center, and Luke Air Force Base, both have large Uni-Solar rooftop systems in operation.
