More than 140 Artists Set to Host 37 Shows, 6 Venues; Tickets Start at Just $5
Phoenix, AZ - The 3rd Annual Phoenix Fringe Festival – Phoenix’s premieres experimental performance festival – is set to take over downtown Phoenix and turn it into a place where anything can happen. More than 140 artists are set to host 37 performances at six venues across downtown Phoenix. Tickets go on sale Friday, March 5 at phxfringe.org and showup.com and start at just $5.
The Phoenix Fringe Festival (PHX:fringe) is a nonprofit organization founded in early 2008 by a group of theater artists and producers with a shared vision for the importance of small venue, live theater in downtown Phoenix.
This year, artists from all over the world will be participating in the festival including, Australia’s Cardboard Suitcase, SHARP Dance Company based out of Philadelphia and Phoenix’s most establish theater groups Teatra Bravo.
The Phoenix Fringe Festival is happy to announce that they will have two walkable zones this year, in Roosevelt Row and on Grand Ave, creating 2 temporary theatre districts with our audience being able to explore the wonderful neighborhoods and businesses of downtown Phoenix in between the various performances.
Phoenix Fringe has partnered with Urban Stew to bring over 14 interactive art installations to the festival. These will include projection based interactive art, larger than life children’s toys and a collection of chairs that Fringe patrons can play like musical instruments.
PHX:fringe has it roots in the long and well established movement that traces back to 1947. That year a handful of renegade companies showed up to the Edinburgh International Festival without an invitation or a place to perform they decided to set up shop anywhere they could find a space. While contemporary Fringe Festivals are better organized than their predecessors and take advantage of group marketing and administrative efficiencies the Fringe spirit continues to promote free and open artistic expression.
