New Exhibit at Pueblo Grande Museum Features Newest Arizona National Monument
Phoenix’s Pueblo Grande Museum is thrilled to announce the opening of a new exhibit featuring an exploration of a stunning geographic and cultural landmark in central Arizona. Landscape Legacies: The Art and Archaeology of Perry Mesa will be opening on March 5, 2010. Visitors can explore the interaction of the environment and people that form the cultural landscape of Perry Mesa through the photographer’s lens, and through the scientific examination of a changing archaeological landscape.
Perry Mesa is located in Agua Fria National Monument, several miles east of Interstate 17. The mesa runs from south to north for several miles beginning roughly just north of Black Canyon City. The monument’s 71,000 acres offers one of the richest systems of prehistoric sites in the Southwest.
This exhibit features the recent research out of Arizona State University on prehistoric agricultural practices on Perry Mesa, as well a display of large-format photographs of nearby rock art by photographer Pat Gorraiz.
