City of Mesa offers free “Harvesting Rainwater for Your Landscape” Seminar at Red Mountain Library
Mesa, AZ – The City of Mesa’s free “Living Green” workshop series continues Saturday, Jan. 9, at 1:30 p.m. with a seminar on “Harvesting Rainwater for Your Landscape” at the Mesa Red Mountain Branch Library, 635 N. Power Road. The Development and Sustainability Department and Mesa Library are presenting the monthly workshop series featuring earth-friendly advice for your home and garden.
Presented by Master Gardner Greg Morris, “Harvesting Rainwater for Your Landscape” will show participants the art of directing rainwater for beneficial landscape use, from simple to more elaborate systems. Basic concepts, design tips and state tax credits will also be covered. Capturing this high-quality source of free water to irrigate landscapes provides water that is healthier for plants and easier on the water bill.
Morris is a Master Gardener, Horticulturist and a Certified Professional Landscape Designer with 20 years experience. His focus has been on sustainable landscape techniques including practices such as green roofs, rainwater harvesting and use of renewable materials. He is currently a principal at LAND FX Design Group, Inc. and president of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers – Phoenix District.
If you can’t make it to the workshop, the City has posted a monthly Sustainability Savings Tip on its Web site, www.mesaaz.gov/sustainability. January’s tip details how rainwater harvesting has the potential to capture more than 7,000 gallons of water for a typical home annually.
The aim of the “Living Green” series is to inform the community about why and how to increase the sustainability of our community, and is part of a larger effort by the City to develop and implement innovative programs to address environmental issues and concerns.
The series will continue on the second Saturday of each month with new topics and guest speakers. For more information on the “Living Green” workshop series or the City’s sustainability efforts, visit http://www.mesaaz.gov/sustainability/ or call (480) 644-4400.
