Tempe Makes it Easy for Residents to get to the Insight Bowl and Block Party Dec 31st

Tempe, AZ – The city of Tempe will make it easy for residents to get to the Insight Bowl & Block Party Dec. 31 with convenient bus, light rail and park-and-ride services.

TRANSIT
People are encouraged to ride the bus for FREE or take light rail to the festivities. Before 3 p.m., the bus routes listed below will run according to regular schedules. From 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Dec. 31, the northbound trips on the routes listed below will run every 15 minutes to downtown Tempe or closest light rail station.

• 62 – Hardy (north from Warner to Priest/Washington)
• 72 – Rural (north from Ray Road to Apache/McClintock)
• 81 – Hayden/McClintock (north from ASU Research Park to Apache Blvd.)
• 92 – 48th St./Guadalupe (north from Arizona Mills Mall to Tempe Transportation Center)

The bus routes listed below will depart downtown Tempe or closet light rail station every 15 minutes or as needed from midnight to 2 a.m. Jan. 1.

• Special Library Shuttle
• 62 – Hardy (south to Warner Road/IKEA)
• 65 – Mill/Kyrene (south to Warner Road)
• 66 – Mill/68th Street (south to Guadalupe and Price roads)
• 72 – Rural Rd. (south to Ray Rd.)
• 92 – 48th Street/Guadalupe (south to Guadalupe and Price roads)
• Orbit Mercury, Venus, Earth and Jupiter will also operate during this time.

Light rail will run every 20 minutes until 2 a.m. for $1.75 (regular fare) each way.

All other routes will run according to regular schedules unless on detour. Please be sure to check the Valley Metro website at www.valleymetro.org for late night bus schedules.

PARK-AND-RIDE LOCATIONS
Residents are encouraged to park at one of the following park-and-ride locations and take the bus for FREE or ride light rail for $1.75 (regular fare) each way to the festivities. Park and ride lots are open from 3 p.m. Dec. 31 to 2 a.m. Jan. 1.

• Arizona Mills Mall – board bus near Entry #1 (Route 92)
• Tempe Sports Complex located at the northeast corner of Hardy Drive and Warner Road (Route 62)
• Tempe Library Complex located at the southwest corner of Rural Road and Southern Avenue (Special Library Shuttle)
• Dorsey and Apache (Light Rail)
• McClintock and Apache (Light Rail)
• Price and Apache (Light Rail)

If you choose to park at one of the designated park-and-rides listed above, please secure your vehicle and belongings. Property owners will not be held responsible for stolen or damaged vehicles.

BUS DETOURS
On Dec. 31, board any bus in Tempe and ride FREE for the entire service day. The following routes will be on detour: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Jupiter, 30, 62, 65, 66, 72, 76, 92. Not all routes will be detoured in both directions.

30 – University
3rd quarter to 1 hour after game: Westbound – Regular route to University & McClintock; south on McClintock; west on Apache; north on Rural; west on University to resume regular route.

11 p.m. to end of regular weekday service: Westbound – Regular route to University & McClintock; south on McClintock; west on Apache; north on Rural; west on University to resume regular route.

62 – Hardy
8 p.m. Dec. 30 to 2:15 a.m. Jan. 1: Northbound – Regular route to Ash & 5th St.; continue south on Ash to University; east on University to College; north on College to 5th St.; west on 5th St. to Tempe Transportation Center. Southbound – Depart Tempe Transportation Center; east on 5th St. to College; south on College to University; west on University to Farmer Ave.; north on Farmer Ave to resume regular route.

65 – Mill/Kyrene
8 p.m. Dec. 30 to 2:15 a.m. Jan. 1: Southbound – Pull through west entrance of Tempe Transportation Center to depart east on 5th St; south on College; west on University to Mill; south on Mill to resume regular route.

66 – Mill/68th St.
8 p.m. Dec. 30 to 3 p.m. Dec. 31: Northbound – Regular route to Tempe Transportation Center (TTC); depart TTC east on 5th St.; south on College; east on University; north on Rural; west on Curry; north on College to resume regular route. Southbound – Regular route to College & Curry; east on Curry; south on Scottsdale/Rural; west on University; north on College; west on 5th St. to Tempe Transportation Center; east on 5th St.; south on College; west on University; south on Mill to resume regular route.

3 p.m. Dec. 31 to 2 a.m. Jan. 1: Route is split, service from Guadalupe/McClintock to Tempe Transportation Center and service from Priest/Washington to Scottsdale Fashion Square.

• Guadalupe/McClintock to Tempe Transportation Center Northbound – Regular route to Tempe Transportation Center; route ends at TTC. Southbound – Depart Tempe Transportation Center; east on 5th St.; south on College; west on University; south on Mill to resume regular route.
• Priest/Washington to Scottsdale Fashion Square Northbound – From Priest/Washington; east on Washington/Curry to College; north on College to resume regular route. Southbound – Regular route to College & Curry; west on Curry/Washington to Mill; north on Mill to Center Pkwy; west on Center Pkwy. to Priest; south on Priest to Washington; east on Washington to layover at 1st bus stop.

72 – Scottsdale/Rural
8 p.m. Dec. 30 to 3 p.m. Dec. 31: Northbound – Regular route to Tempe Transportation Center; east on 5th St.; south on College; east on University to resume regular route. Southbound – Regular route to Tempe Transportation Center; east on 5th St.; south on College; east on University; south on McAllister to resume regular route.

3 p.m. Dec. 31 to 2 a.m. Jan. 1: Northbound – Regular route to Tempe Transportation Center; east on 5th St.; south on College; east on University to McClintock; north on McClintock to Curry Rd.; west on Curry Rd. to Scottsdale Rd.; north on Scottsdale Rd to resume regular route – route ends at McDowell. Southbound – Regular route to Scottsdale & Curry; east on Curry; south on McClintock; west on Apache; north on Rural; west on University Dr.; north on College Ave. to TTC; depart TTC east on 5th; south on College; east on University Dr.; south on McAllister to resume regular route.

76 – Miller
3 p.m. Dec. 31 until end of regular weekday service: Northbound – From Priest & Washington – east on Washington/Curry; north on Miller to resume regular route. Southbound – Regular route to Miller & Curry; west on Curry/Washington; north on Mill; west on Center Pkwy.; south on Priest; east on Washington; layover at 1st bus stop.

92 – 48th St/Guadalupe
3 p.m. Dec. 31 to 2 a.m. Jan. 1: Northbound – Regular route to Mill & University; east on University to College; north on College to 5th St; west on 5th St. into Tempe Transportation Center via west driveway.

Orbit Earth
Due to significant road closures and restrictions, Earth will not operate a circular route, but will travel in two directions between the Tempe Transportation Center at the south end and Priest & Washington at the northern end point:

8 p.m. Dec. 30 to 2:15 a.m. Jan. 1: Forward/Southbound – From Priest & Washington; east on Washington & Curry to College Ave; north on College to resume regular route. Back/Northbound – From Tempe Transportation Center; regular route west on Curry to Mill Ave.; north on Mill to Center Pkwy.; west on Center Pkwy. to Priest; south on Priest to Washington; east on Washington to layover at 1st bus stop. From Priest & Washington; north on Priest to Center Pkwy; east on Center Pkwy. to Mill Ave; south on Mill Ave to Curry; east on Curry to resume regular route.

Orbit Jupiter
3 p.m. Dec. 31 to 1 a.m. Jan. 1: Forward – Regular route to Mill & University; east on University to College; north on College to 5th St.; west on 5th St into Tempe Transportation Center to resume regular route. Back – Pull through west entrance of Tempe Transportation Center to depart east on 5th St; south on College; west on University to Mill; south on Mill to resume regular route.

Orbit Mercury
3 p.m. Dec. 31 to end of service day: Eastbound – Pull through west entrance of Tempe Transportation Center to depart east on 5th St; south on College; east on University to resume regular route.

Orbit Venus
8 p.m. Dec. 30 to 2 a.m. Jan. 1: Forward – Regular route to 5th St. & Ash; south on Ash; east on University; north on College to Tempe Transportation Center to resume regular route. Back – Regular route to Tempe Transportation Center; pull through west entrance of Tempe Transportation Center to depart east on 5th St; south on College; west on University; south on Mill Ave to resume regular route.

STREET CLOSURES/RESTRICTIONS

The following streets will be closed from approximately 9 p.m. Dec. 30 to 8 a.m. Jan. 1.

• Mill Avenue between Rio Salado Parkway and University Drive will be closed in both directions.
• 3rd Street between Ash Avenue and Mill Avenue will be closed in both directions. Local access will be permitted to residents.
• 5th Street between Myrtle Avenue and Ash Avenue will be closed in both directions. Only local access will be permitted west of College Ave.
• 6th Street west of Forest Avenue will be closed in both directions.
• 7th Street west of Myrtle Avenue will be closed in both directions.
• College Avenue between 6th Street and Veterans Way/5th Street will be closed in both directions.

The following streets will be closed Dec. 31.

• Veterans Way will be closed in both directions between 6th Street and College Avenue from 9 a.m. until after the event ends.
• Westbound Rio Salado Parkway may be closed at McClintock Drive as needed to control traffic congestion.

The following streets will be closed or restricted from the start of the third quarter of the football game until one hour after game ends Dec. 31.

• Eastbound Rio Salado Parkway will be closed between Ash and Mill avenues.
• Westbound Rio Salado Parkway will be closed between Karsten Golf Course and McClintock Drive.
• University Drive between Mill Avenue and Rural Road will be closed in both directions.
• Westbound University Drive between Rural Road and McClintock Drive will be restricted to one lane between Athletes Place and McClintock Drive for local business access.
• Eastbound Gilbert Drive will be closed between Scottsdale Road and College Avenue.
• Southbound Scottsdale Road between Curry Road and Rio Salado Parkway will be closed.
• Northbound Rural Road between Sixth Street and University Drive will be closed.
• 5th Street, 6th Street, and 7th Street will be closed in both directions between Forest Avenue and College Avenue.
• College Avenue will be closed in both directions between 6th Street and Veterans Way/5th Street.
• Southbound McAllister Drive will be closed between University Dr and Terrace Road.
• The Loop 202 eastbound and westbound off-ramps at Scottsdale Road will be closed.

The following streets will be closed or restricted from approximately 11 p.m. Dec. 31 to 2 a.m. Jan. 1.

• University Drive between Mill Avenue and Rural Road will be closed in both directions.
• Southbound Scottsdale Road between Curry Road and Rio Salado Parkway will be closed.
• Northbound Rural Road between Sixth Street and University Drive will be closed.
• Westbound University Drive between Rural Road and McClintock Drive will be restricted to one lane between Athletes Place and McClintock Drive for local business access.
• The Loop 202 eastbound and westbound off-ramps at Scottsdale Road will be closed.

PARKING
Public parking costs vary from $5 to $20 in the downtown area. People are encouraged to park at one of the following locations:

• Hayden Square
• Centerpoint
• Rio Salado Parkway east of Priest Drive
