Customers Submitted Energy-Saving Ideas and Voted for their Favorites
Phoenix, AZ – Salt River Project customers Donna Austen and Elizabeth Galindo, who devised their own unique ways to save energy during the holidays, were chosen as the winners of the SRP Greener Holiday Contest.
Austen, who lives in Tempe, won eight passes to Zoo Lights and a one-year Zoo membership for two adults and two kids. Her tip was to hold a neighborhood holiday cookie bake. Neighbors make their dough at home and then gather at one house to do the baking. She wrote one oven was being used with no waiting between batches. It’s also a great way to get together with the neighbors and share the holiday spirit doing something you’re going to do anyway, she added.
Second place winner Galindo, who lives in San Tan Valley, will receive an energy efficient gift pack. Her tip was to put indoor and outdoor holiday lights on a timer so customers won’t forget to turn the lights off or leave them on all night running up their energy bill, she wrote.
SRP received more than 200 tips from customers during the contest timeframe and more than 3,700 people voted for their favorites. Customers can view the submitted holiday tips at www.savewithsrp.com.
While SRP offers numerous ways for its customers to save energy – including decorating with low-energy use LED holiday lights – the contest was a way for customers to share their own creative and unconventional holiday energy-saving ideas.
