Free Christmas Tree Recycling Offered to Greater Phoenix Area Residents

Harvest for Humanity Foundation Announces 1st Annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program; Tree Drop-off Set for January 2, 2010 in Tempe

Phoenix, AZ – Harvest for Humanity Foundation, a non-profit foundation that farms vacant lots using natural/sustainable practices with community volunteers and donates the produce to the local Food Banks and shelters to help stop hunger, is announcing their 1st Annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010.

Residents all across the metro Phoenix area can drop off trees at 1006 E. Guadalupe Road,Tempe, Arizona, 85283 and recycle them for FREE on this date. Drop-off time is from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The Christmas trees will be chipped on site by the donated services of Agave Environmental Contracting, Inc., and used in the mulching and composting program on site that assist in making this a more sustainable growing site that not only helps feed the hungry, but also helps giving back to the land.

“We encourage all those who celebrate the holidays with a live Christmas tree to participate in our recycling program,” said Denise Phillips, President and Executive Director of the Harvest for Humanity Foundation. “By recycling their trees, residents help give holiday trees a second life as compost or mulch.”

Harvest grows fresh fruits and vegetables which are distributed through food banks, prepared food service organizations, community centers, other non-profit organizations, and to numerous handicapped citizens (many of whom are children and elderly shut-ins) of Arizona.

To date, Harvest for Humanity has donated over 1,000,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables to local food banks, soup kitchens and care providers. Through community volunteer efforts more than 400,000 people are fed each year and more than 1,000,000 meals have been prepared using Harvest for Humanity’s produce.

PLEASE NOTE: Only live cut trees are accepted. Please make sure that there are no lights, decorations or flocking left on the tree as this will harm our equipment.

Monetary donations along with or in lieu of Christmas trees will also be welcomed.
