Fountain Hills High School’s Claire McWilliams named Fulton Homes “Teacher of the Week”
(Fountain Hills, AZ) - Known around campus for her kind nature and charitable acts of kindness, Claire McWilliams goes far beyond her job as an educator to reach out to those far less fortunate—even extending her efforts to reach remote parts of the world. In honor of her work, the Fountain Hills High School teacher was recognized with this week’s Fulton Homes “Teacher of the Week.” McWilliams will be featured on the KNIX Ben and Matt Show Friday, Dec. 18, between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m.
In addition to her dynamic teaching methods and remarkable ability to connect with the students, Williams is being recognized for her role as head of the Family Career and Community Leaders of America, where she spearheads annual service projects to help the less fortunate. “Mrs. Williams is always encouraging us to find ways to help others, and seek out opportunities to assist those in need,” said nominator Emily Darling. “I’m proud to nominate Mrs. Williams as teacher of the Week, because she’s always thinking of others. It’s time she’s recognized as well!”
Williams recently helped the students complete an international service project, where she organized a community-involved school supply drive for the orphans of Uganda. Williams even headed a fundraiser to send her and six of her students to the impoverished country, experiencing first hand the plight of the orphans she was assisting.
“Selfless educators like Mrs. McWilliams are exactly the kind of role models our students need,” said Douglas Fulton, CEO of Fulton Homes. “When teachers go out of their way to be an example and help those in need, it sets a certain tone in the classroom for students to follow—and that ought to be recognized.”
Every week, students are asked to nominate teachers like McWilliams for the chance to win a prize package that includes $300 in cash plus prizes from Fulton Homes and the Dairy Council of Arizona. The winning teacher will also be spotlighted on the KNIX Morning Show with Ben and Matt, where they will receive special recognition on their Friday show. At the end of the year, the 34 winning teachers will be honored at a special luncheon, where one outstanding teacher will be selected as “Teacher of the Year.”
