December 11, 2009 · Published By Editor

Tempe, Arizona – The Maricopa County Department of Public Health will conduct Valleywide H1N1 vaccine clinics to high-risk groups starting this Saturday, Dec. 12. Several locations are in and around Tempe.

Federal and local health officials emphasize that the focus of the H1N1 vaccination effort is still on high-risk populations who are most vulnerable to the flu. These populations include: pregnant women; those who live with and care for infants younger than six months; persons between the ages of six months and 24 years; children who are six months through four years old; health care and emergency medical services personnel; children up to age 18 with underlying conditions such as asthma, diabetes and neurological disorders; and anyone with immune-compromising conditions.

Vaccine locations will include retails sites such as Safeway Pharmacies*, Walmart, Apothecary Shops*, Walgreens*, Ace Hardware, Bashas, Fry’s Pharmacies*, Albertson’s/Osco and others. A complete list of locations can be found at www.StopTheSpreadAZ.org or by calling the bilingual flu hotline at 1-877-764-2670.

For more information, visit www.fluaz.org or call the county’s English/Spanish information hotline at 1-877-764-2670.

* It is important to note that because Fry’s, Safeway, Apothecary and Walgreens will be giving shots through their pharmacies, they can only vaccinate those age 18 and over. AHCCCS patients at these pharmacies require a prescription.
