Phoenix Employees Raise More than $1.4 million for Valley of the Sun United Way
Phoenix, AZ – City of Phoenix employees this week celebrated the city’s 2009 Community Service Fund Drive, which exceeded its $1.4 million fund-raising goal for Valley of the Sun United Way. The campaign consistently raises more than $1 million for the United Way, making the city a major contributor.
“This is an amazing accomplishment, considering the economic challenges we face as individuals and as an organization,” City Manager David Cavazos said. “The entire community will benefit from the kindness and generosity of city employees.”
More than 7,500 employees turned in pledges to support 376 agencies and programs that receive funding from Valley of the Sun United Way. In addition to pledges, departments held fund-raisers ranging from bake sales to silent auctions to a jet pull at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
Individual employees and city departments that contributed significantly to the campaign were recognized at an awards ceremony Thursday at Steele Indian School Park Memorial Hall.
