Southwest Job Network Hosts Workshop on Developing a Professional Presence

Phoenix, AZ – People skills and overall professionalism are essential to succeeding in today’s tight job market. Employers want more than class ranking, GPA, and experience. Job seekers are also selling their integrity, social skills, and professionalism. This all starts with one’s personal presentation.

On Monday, Dec. 14th, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Southwest Job Network West will present a workshop titled Develop The Professional Presence That Sells Your Credentials. The workshop will guide job seekers through the building blocks of achieving professional and personal presence.

It will take place at Glendale Community College, 6000 W. Olive Ave., in Student Union Room 104/Conference Center Meeting. Parking is available at Lot S1. There will be open networking and resume reviews from 5:00 – 6:00; the presentation is from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. There is no cost for this seminar, courtesy of collaboration with the Glendale Community College. Donations are accepted; they help defer the cost of materials for these events.

Distinguish oneself from the competition
The ultimate goal of a job applicant is to establish rapport with the prospective employer right from the start by distinguishing his or herself from the competition ― through displaying professionalism, confidence, reliability. A résumé makes the initial introduction; however, one must sell one’s social skills with impressive credentials. When one’s approach, posture, attire and eye contact inspire trust, one is perceived as more confident and self-assured. These attributes provide an added advantage.

After the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Meet expectations utilizing the three Elements of Visual Perception
  • Approach a recruiter with a look of confidence
  • Maintain a Charisma Connection
  • Deliver a professional self-introduction
  • Handle and pronounce challenging names
  • Respond to a greeting with the correct handshake
  • Engage in small talk with ease
  • Exchange name or business cards based on protocol
  • Cement the relationship with an impressive exit
…and practice applying these principles in a mix-and-mingle exercise.

Increase confidence, improve presence
The workshop will be led by Gloria Peterson, speaker and trainer, Global Protocol, Inc. Ms. Peterson has been delivering personal presentation workshops for over 20 years. Through her energetic style and engaging personality, she empowers participants with valuable career-changing strategies that enable them to grow in confidence and improve their overall presence.
