More than $153 million raised to benefit community through hospital programs and services

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Scottsdale Healthcare, is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The Foundation has raised more than $153 million to support patient care and community services offered through Scottsdale Healthcare’s nonprofit community based hospitals.

Thriving even during the economic swings of the past quarter century, donations from individuals, businesses, community leaders and other organizations steadfastly supported Scottsdale Healthcare’s leadership in medical talent and technology to benefit the Northeast Valley community.

Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation was built on solid ground, officially launched in 1984 after a fund-raising campaign to build what is now Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center. The campaign was co-chaired by local philanthropist Kenneth Piper and actor Dick Van Dyke, raising more than $5 million and making it one of the largest and most successful capital campaigns in the Valley at that time.

The legacy of this original group of philanthropists continues today with donations large and small from members of the Scottsdale-area community.

“Philanthropic support has been the hallmark in bringing the latest in medical talent and technology to our patients and to our community,” says John Ferree, president, Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation. “We are extremely grateful for the continuous support of our donors and friends throughout the past 25 years.”

Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation also presents one of the Valley’s most elegant and exciting black tie events, The Honor Ball. The 34th edition of this popular event is set for Feb. 6, 2010 with proceeds benefiting Scottsdale Healthcare’s Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center. The Honor Ball has raised more than $8 million to benefit various Scottsdale Healthcare programs and services.

Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation’s annual Scottsdale Healthcare Golf Classic remains one of the Valley’s premier and enduring charity pro-am events. The 25th anniversary tournament is set for April 9-10, 2010 and will again benefit Scottsdale Healthcare’s NOAH clinics for uninsured children.

“Scottsdale Healthcare has emerged as one of the leading nonprofit, community-based health systems thanks in large part to the partnerships through the Foundation,” says Tom Sadvary, president and chief executive officer of Scottsdale Healthcare. “We are very fortunate to have this dedication and support which has led to advanced medical technology and the expansion of vital patient and community programs and services.”
