Humana appoints Dr. John M. Cruickshank as Market Medical Officer

John M. Cruickshank, D.O., M.B.A., Appointed Market Medical Officer for Humana of Arizona

PHOENIX – John M. Cruickshank, D.O., M.B.A., C.P.E., has been named vice president and market medical officer of Humana Inc.’s (NYSE: HUM) Arizona operations in an announcement made by Mark El-Tawil, president of Humana’s Commercial market operations in Arizona.

Dr. Cruickshank, who has more than 25 years of experience in clinical and medical management settings, will be the physician liaison between Humana and area health care providers, and will monitor Humana’s clinical programs to optimize members’ health care experiences.

“Dr. Cruickshank brings an extraordinary background of clinical practice and managed care experience to his position,” said El-Tawil. “His wealth of experience and knowledge of the Phoenix medical community will contribute immensely to the relationship Humana has with our members and network physicians.”

Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Cruickshank previously served as executive vice president and chief quality officer of IASIS Healthcare in Franklin, Tenn. He also served as president and chief medical officer of Total Care Management Associates of Las Vegas, as chief medical officer of Cigna Healthcare’s Western Region based in Phoenix and as senior medical director of Pacificare of Arizona.

His clinical experience includes serving as vice president and medical director of Scottsdale Healthcare Familycare and as president and owner of the Scottsdale Center for Family Medicine.

Dr. Cruickshank earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He earned a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Loyola University.

Dr. Cruickshank was a Flight Surgeon with the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks AFB, Texas, and earned the Air Force Systems Command Flight Surgeon of the Year in 1985 as well as a Meritorious Service Medal.

Dr. Cruickshank is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association and the American College of Physician Executives.
