Arthritis Foundation Greater Southwest Chapter Launches Scholarship Program

Phoenix, AZ – The Greater Southwest Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of the Arthritis Foundation – Greater Southwest Chapter Winterhoff Scholarship. The scholarship is the first of its kind in the country for individuals with arthritis or a rheumatic disease. After receiving the grant from the estate of the late Dr. and Mrs. Walter Winterhoff, the gift was established to create the Walter J. and Kathryn M. Winterhoff Endowed Scholarship Fund.

“The Greater Southwest Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation is thrilled we are able to provide this opportunity to students,” explains Carolyn S. Allen, Chapter Board Chair. “The Arthritis Foundation will help change lives and empower patients as they pursue their undergraduate or graduate education.”

Collegiate scholarships are being offered at the three public universities in Arizona – Arizona State University in Tempe, Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff and the University of Arizona in Tucson – commencing Fall 2010 and renewable up to three years. The applications are available now and
interested students should contact their Student Financial Aid Office. The deadline is March 1.

“This has been a collaborative effort and joint launch with all three universities. A special thank you to everyone involved in this process,” said Vikki Scarafiotti, President Greater Southwest Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.
