Healthy Home, Healthy You: Do Natural Products Really Make a Difference?

Mesa, AZ – The City of Mesa’s free “Living Green” workshop series continues Saturday, Nov. 14, at 1:30 p.m. with a seminar called Healthy Home, Healthy You: Do Natural Products Really Make a Difference? at the Mesa Red Mountain Branch Library, 635 N. Power Road. The Development and Sustainability Department and Mesa Library are presenting the monthly workshop series featuring earth-friendly advice for your home and garden.

“This workshop will cover how to purchase products with safer ingredients,” Scott Bouchie, Deputy Director of the Environmental and Sustainability Division, said. “Our hope is to encourage people to purchase less hazardous materials that the City will have to dispose of at a later time.”

Healthy Home, Healthy You: Do Natural Products Really Make a Difference? will be presented by Sustainability Consultant Stacy Wilde. Owner of her own company, Syner-Green, Wilde’s passion is to help convince skeptics why green pays off and makes good economic sense. Wilde is a founding member of the Green Chamber of Commerce and active in the Arizona Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council.

Wilde’s workshop will discuss the connection of household products to indoor air quality, and how some of the chemicals may impact your health, the environment and your wallet. Topics will cover what is in typical household cleaners, how to make or purchase those with safer ingredients and how to recognize those that might only be ‘green-washing’ for marketing purposes.

If you can’t make it to the workshop, the City has posted a monthly Sustainability Savings Tip on its new Web site, http://www.mesaaz.gov/sustainability. The November tip explains how purchasing decisions can make your home safer and healthier for your family and the earth.

The aim of the “Living Green” series is to inform the community about why and how to increase the sustainability of our community, and is part of a larger effort by the City to develop and implement innovative and effective programs to address environmental issues and concerns.

The series will continue on the second Saturday of each month with new topics and guest speakers. For more information on the “Living Green” workshop series or the City’s sustainability efforts, visit http://www.mesaaz.gov/sustainability or call (480) 644-4400.
