Home furnishings donated to local family

Mesa, AZ – Home furnishings, mattresses and other “wish-list” items were delivered to Ray and Sigrid Stockton as part of a furniture donation campaign organized by Mesa District 6 Councilmember Scott Somers.

After the Stocktons received a new 2009 Palm Harbor manufactured home as part of the City’s Home Replacement Program to replace their home that was destroyed in a 2007 microburst, Councilmember Somers walked into the home and felt something was missing. Along with their house, most of their belongings were also destroyed, leaving the family with almost nothing to call their own.

To help the Stocktons fill their empty home, Councilmember Somers enlisted the help of local businesses and organizations that wanted to help the family. Sleep Savvy and the East Valley Men Center donated to the campaign. A $500 donation from Mesa Firefighter Charities and private donations from community members helped as well.

“The businesses and citizens of Mesa have a remarkable spirit of generosity and consistently look for ways to make a positive impact in the community where we live and work,” Councilmember Somers said. “Seeing all of these local businesses and organizations working together for such a deserving project reminds me of how much I enjoy being a part of this community and how fortunate I am to serve here.”

Donated items include a coffee table, night stands, dresser, dining room table, sofa, love seat, king size bed frames, mattresses, box springs and a bicycle.
