Habitat Home to take Center Stage at 2009 Greenbuild Conference

October 13, 2009 · Published By

PHOENIX, AZ – Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona (HFHCAZ) is excited to announce an upcoming Net Zero Energy Home, seeking LEED Platinum Certification, has been selected as a Legacy Project for the 2009 Greenbuild Conference & Expo in November. The highly anticipated project, on 20 N. 27th Ave., will be sponsored by Wells Fargo Housing Foundation and will take place over the course of five days.

The scope of this Habitat legacy project has generated the interest of many in-kind partners which include the following companies: American Solar Electric, Building Innovation Industries, Waste Management, Southwest InSEALators, Energy Inspectors, Renewal by Andersen, Whirlpool and Valspar.

“Sustainable ‘green’ building practices complement the Habitat mission of building affordable homes,” said James Ball, Sustainable Building Manger for HFHCAZ.

According to Ball, by improving the energy and water efficiency, as well as the durability and indoor air quality of our homes, we are making Habitat homes not only affordable to purchase but to live in and maintain.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), the Green Building Rating System developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), provides a suite of standards for environmentally sustainable construction. LEED certified buildings use key resources more efficiently when compared to conventional homes or buildings, which are simply built to code. LEED certified buildings are healthier living environments, which contributes to higher productivity and improved health and comfort.

Greenbuild has sought to leave ‘legacy’ projects involving demonstration buildings, educational programs, and/or community projects in each of its host cities. As a Legacy Project, the Habitat home will be featured during a conference presentation, through conference attendee tours and in promotional material. Greenbuild attracts over 35,000 professionals in all aspects of the building industry representing countries through the world and all 50 states. The conference will be held the week of November 9th at the Phoenix Convention Center. For more information on the 2009 Greenbuild Conference & Expo visit www.greenbuildexpo.org.
