Meet tomorrow’s baseball stars in Mesa
October 7, 2009 · Published By Editor
Mesa, AZ - Each year, more than 75 players move from the Arizona Fall League to the majors. Fall League alumni include All-Stars Brandon Webb, Albert Pujols, Jason Giambi and Dustin Pedroia. You could be sitting with the next star of baseball at the Rising Stars Family Cookout Monday, Oct. 12 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hohokam Stadium, 1235 N. Center St. in Mesa.
It is a rare chance to be on the field and share a table and dine with this year’s top prospects from several major league organizations. Hot dogs and other refreshments will be served by firefighters from the east valley. There will also be a silent auction of baseball memorabilia and door prizes.
Arizona Diamondbacks manager A.J. Hinch will be the keynote speaker. Diamondbacks radio voice Jeff Munn will emcee the event that will include recognition of championship youth baseball and softball teams from the East Valley. Speakers preceding Hinch include Mesa Mayor Scott Smith, Cactus League President Robert Brinton, Fall League Executive Director Steve Cobb and Arizona Fall League “architect” Roland Hemond.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under. A book of ten tickets can be purchased for $90. The price of the ticket includes admission, food and the program. Parking is free. To purchase tickets, visit http://www.mesahistoricalmuseum.org/content/rising-stars-family-cookout.
All event proceeds benefit Play Ball: The Cactus League Experience, a history of the Cactus League on display through Dec. 31 at the Mesa Historical Museum, 2345 N. Horne. An expanded version of the exhibit will reopen to the public Feb. 27 at the Arizona Museum for Youth, 35 N. Robson St.
Rising Stars Family Cookout is sponsored by Play Ball: The Cactus League Experience, Arizona Fall League, Ovations and East Valley Firefighters Charities.
