Celebrate World Breastfeeding Week at Mountain Vista Medical Center

Mesa, AZ – In 2007, there were more than four million births in the United States according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. With millions of new births each year, Mountain Vista Medical Center (MVMC) understands the importance of educating the community about the benefits and advantages of breastfeeding.

In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, Aug. 1 – 6, MVMC will be hosting an afternoon of education and activities to promote and support breastfeeding on Thursday, Aug. 6, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.  at Mountain Vista Medical Center, Second floor loft near Women’s Services.  Address: 1301 S. Crismon Road, Mesa, AZ 85209

Fast facts:

  • Less than 40 percent of infants around the world are exclusively breastfed according to the World Health Organization.
  • Infants who are breastfed have a decreased likelihood to develop allergies and illnesses. Breast milk provides ideal nutrition for infants, contributing to their healthy growth and development.
  • Breastfeeding provides many long-term and short-term health benefits for both mothers and infants.
  • Breastfeeding contributes to a woman’s health by reducing the risk of breast and ovarian cancer.

“Today breastfeeding is not just a feeding choice, but a health care decision for both baby and mother,” says Beverly Mann, BSN, RNC, IBCLC, clinical educator for Women’s Services at MVMC. “Breastfeeding has become a public health priority and it is Mountain Vista Medical Center’s philosophy to encourage and support breastfeeding here in the hospital and in our community.  Our goal is to promote ideal nutrition which conveys a lifetime of health benefits for baby.”
