Golf Professional at Dobson Ranch Gold Course to compete in 2009 U.S. Senior Open

Mesa, AZ - Greg Harmon, Assistant Golf Professional at Dobson Ranch Golf Course in Mesa, has qualified to compete in the 2009 U.S. Senior Open July 30 through Aug. 2 at Crooked Stick Golf Course in Carmel, Indiana.

Harmon earned the right to participate in the event at a recent sectional qualifying tournament at Poston Butte Golf Course near Florence.  He made an eagle putt on the 18th hole to force a six-way playoff and then win the second and final qualifying spot for the U.S. Senior Open.  This is Harmon’s third appearance in a major senior golf tournament.  He also competed in the 2003 Senior U.S. Open and the 2003 Senior PGA Championship.

“I’m very excited about competing in the tournament.  I am honored to be able to play with the legends of the game we have seen on TV,” Harmon said.  “I hope to make Mesa and Dobson Ranch proud.”  Among the golfers competing in this year’s Senior U.S. Open are Tom Watson, Greg Norman, Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw.

“Greg’s accomplishment is wonderful for Dobson Ranch.  Anytime anyone from here plays on the USGA or PGA level, it is a great reflection on our golf course,” Dobson Ranch Head Golf Professional Brian Herring said.    Another successful golfer from Dobson Ranch, Chez Reavie, has been playing on the PGA tour since 2005.  He played at Dobson Ranch while competing on the Dobson High School and ASU golf teams.

Dobson Ranch, which opened in 1974 and is owned by the City of Mesa, has been ranked in the August, 2009 edition of Golf Digest magazine as the best municipal golf course in Arizona.
