Vote Tempe for “America’s Best Tennis Town”!

TEMPE, Ariz. – Tempe has some of the most passionate tennis players, finest tennis facilities and best tennis programs in the state, and now the nation is taking notice.

The United States Tennis Association announced today that Tempe has been selected as one of 10 finalists for the title of “Best Tennis Town” and the grand prize of $100,000. A panel of judges reviewed applications and video entries from 56 cities nationwide and found Tempe’s to be among the best at illustrating the passion, excitement, spirit and impact that tennis brings to a community.

The winner of this first-ever Best Tennis Town contest will now be determined by popular vote at www.BestTennisTown.com. Tempe is asking all Valley residents to cast their vote for Tempe during a 10-day window from July 16-

26 to help bring a prestigious award to the Valley. Voters must be 13 years of age or older and must enter a valid e-mail address, select Tempe, then complete their vote by clicking on a link that will be e-mailed to them.

The winner of the online vote will be revealed during a ceremony at the 2009 US Open. If selected, Tempe plans to use the $100,000 award to make the Best Tennis Town even better by growing the game of tennis and expanding tennis programs and initiatives throughout the city, including adding more after-school programs and offering free tennis lessons for new and existing players.

To celebrate tennis in Tempe and provide an extra opportunity to vote, Kiwanis Recreation Center at Mill Avenue and All-America Way will host an open house and voting party on Saturday, July 18 from 8-10 a.m. Tempe residents and Valley neighbors are invited to explore the 15-court tennis facility and cast their very important vote for Tempe.
