Mark your calendars for the 200-mile scenic ride, prizes highlight Oct. 17 event presented by Scottsdale Healthcare

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Motorcycle enthusiasts can help cancer patients and win prizes Oct. 17 during the Scottsdale Healthcare Rob Moy Memorial Poker Run, a 200-mile scenic ride around Saguaro Lake, Scottsdale and the East Valley.

Proceeds from the poker run benefit the Gift of Life Lodging Program for cancer patients traveling to receive treatment at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center.

Presented by Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation, the poker run honors the late Rob Moy, an avid biker and 14-year Scottsdale Healthcare employee. Moy generated the idea of a poker run to benefit the Gift of Life Lodging Program and spearheaded the event before tragically losing his life.

The Gift of Life Lodging Program is a partnership with Country Inns and Suites, offering courtesy lodging while patients undergo treatment at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare.

Cancer patients from throughout Arizona, the U.S. and beyond travel to Scottsdale Healthcare for treatment through Phase I clinical trials of new cancer drugs at the cancer center’s Scottsdale Clinical Research Institute.

The Scottsdale Healthcare Rob Moy Memorial Poker Run begins Oct. 17 at 8 a.m. at Casino Arizona, McKellips and Loop 101, with registration from 7-9 a.m. Participants will collect a playing card at each of five stops along a predetermined route. The best poker hand wins a big-screen television.

Stops include RideNow Powersports in Casa Grande, Chandler Harley Davidson in Chandler, Joeta’s Leather in Mesa, RideNow Powersports in Apache Junction (with a free lunch sponsored by Texas Roadhouse), and Uncle Sam’s Restaurant in Scottsdale.

The event concludes back at Casino Arizona, where winners of the television, a cash prize and raffle items will be announced from 2:30-4 p.m. Winners do not need to be present to win.

Individuals can support the Gift of Life Lodging Program without participating in the ride. To make a donation, visit stop by Casino Arizona on Oct. 17 from 7 a.m.-4 p.m.  Raffle tickets will be available for purchase from 2-4 p.m., along with face painting and clowns for children.
