Cactus Garden – Exotic Cacti
Phoenician Hotel and Resort
Phoenician Resort Cactus Garden on June 27 2009 I visited the Phoenician Resort Cactus Garden gardens with a daughter Kelly Wilhauck and two of her kids, Emily and Bryan. The Phoenician Resort and Hotel maintains a beautiful Cactus Garden in Phoenix Arizona right behind the main lobby. If you drive into the resort and park i the underground parking garage, you can take the elevator up to the lobby and then go North out of the lobby and across the driveway to a set of stairs that take you to the gardens. The two-acre retreat showcases 350 varieties of cacti and succulents with a surprising diversity of plant and animal life. Numerous desert inhabitants are present including Road Runners, Chuckwallas, rabbits and birds. Guided tours are led by a resident horticulturist or you can enjoy a leisurely self-guided stroll of the cacti gardens, which stretches along the northern edge of the resort grounds, at the base of Camelback Mountain.

The day was quite hot and we arrived around noon. I would not recommend that you go that late. The earlier in the day, the better but we had fun nonetheless as you will see in the videos below. After we finished our tour, as we were walking down the steps back toward the hotel lobby, Kelly noticed that there was an Ice Cream Parlor right next to the Cactus Garden. We stopped in there and had three bowls of vanilla ice cream and one bowl chocolate ice cream (altogether, not each.)
