“Comfort Bear” toy drive to help children involved in tragedies

June 29, 2009 · Published By Editor

Maricopa County, AZ – Arizona Highway Patrol Association (AHPA) leads off their yearly “Comfort Bear” toy drive now through July 26th to help console kids impacted by tragedy.   AHPA is urging those willing to help by donating any stuffed animal, as the level is significantly lower from years past.

“Car accidents, domestic abuse situations and violent crime impact everyone, and when there’s children involved, the ramifications are especially difficult,” stated Sgt. Jimmy Chavez, President of AHPA.  “The supply of “Comfort Bears” has dwindled to a level never seen by the AHPA and the need is greater than ever.”

Arizona Highway Patrol Association is collecting new stuffed animals, nicknamed “Comfort Bears”, to help comfort and distract children from trauma. These stuffed toys are distributed to law enforcement personnel throughout the state to provide a level of ease to these children. “Comfort Bears” are usually kept in the trunks of law enforcement vehicles for immediate use.

93.3 KDKB, Pep Boys and McDonald’s have teamed up to assist with the drive.  There are three great incentives for people to help, while supplies last!

  1. FREE McDonalds McCafe
  2. FREE McDonalds Happy Meal
  3. FREE Pep Boys Bucket, Sponge, and Carwash OR FREE preventative maintenance evaluation from Pep Boys

“Last year we received about 1500 “Comfort Bears”, but we are hoping to receive more due to the increase of need,” concluded Chavez. “We are sincerely appreciative to all our community partners that have helped add incentives to donating.”
